Terms of Use

For Soundfr, a mobile speech-to-text application.

Key points

  • Use the app only if you agree to these Terms and the Privacy Policy.
  • The app may stream live microphone audio to Soundfree servers to create text transcripts, but Soundfree does not store the audio recording itself.
  • You are responsible for having the legal right to record or transcribe speech, including speech from other people.
  • Transcripts may be inaccurate and should not be used as the only source for critical, legal, medical, safety, or emergency decisions.

1. Agreement to these Terms

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Soundfr and related services (the "Service") provided by Soundfree OU (registry code 16814223), located at Harju maakond, Tallinn, Haabersti linnaosa, Haabersti tn 5, 13516, Estonia ("Soundfree", "we", "us" or "our"). By downloading, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect and use personal data. By using the Service, you also acknowledge the Privacy Policy. Privacy contact: info@soundfr.ee

2. The Service

Soundfr provides speech-to-text functionality. When you choose to use transcription features, the app may access your phone microphone and send live audio to Soundfree servers to generate transcript text. We do not store the audio recording itself on our servers. We store the resulting transcript text and related service data as described in the Privacy Policy.

We may add, modify, suspend, or discontinue features from time to time. Some features may require an account, internet connection, microphone permission, compatible device, or paid plan.

3. Eligibility

You may use the Service only if you are at least 16 years old and are legally able to enter into these Terms. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you may use the Service only with permission and supervision of a parent or legal guardian. The Service is not directed to children.

4. Accounts and security

  • You may need to create an account to use some features. You must provide accurate information and keep it up to date.
  • You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for all activity under your account.
  • Notify us at info@soundfr.ee if you believe your account has been accessed without authorization.
  • We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, create risk, or are inactive for 1 year.

5. Microphone use, audio processing, and transcripts

  • The app will request microphone access through your device operating system. You can revoke permission in your device settings, but speech-to-text features will not work without microphone access.
  • Live audio is transmitted to our servers only when you actively use or authorize transcription features.
  • We do not store the recording sound itself as an audio file on our servers. The audio is processed transiently for transcription and discarded.
  • The transcript text generated by the Service is stored and may be viewed, edited, exported, shared, or deleted by you according to available features.
  • Do not use the Service to secretly record or transcribe people where consent, notice, or another legal basis is required.

6. Your content and license to us

"User Content" means audio you submit for transcription, transcript text generated from that audio, edits, labels, notes, exports, support messages, and other content you provide through the Service.

  • You keep ownership of your User Content.
  • You grant Soundfree a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive license to process, transmit, host, store, reproduce, display, and use User Content only to provide, secure, troubleshoot, maintain, and improve the Service as described in these Terms and the Privacy Policy.
  • You represent that you have all rights, permissions, consents, and legal bases needed to submit User Content to the Service and to allow us to process it.
  • We do not claim ownership of your transcript text. We may retain copies only as described in the Privacy Policy, including backup and legal retention periods.

7. Recording laws and third-party rights

Laws about recording, transcription, surveillance, confidentiality, workplace monitoring, accessibility services, and consent vary by location and context. You are solely responsible for understanding and complying with laws that apply to your use of the Service, including when recording or transcribing conversations involving other people. You must not use the Service to violate anyone's privacy, intellectual property, trade secrets, professional confidentiality, or other rights.

8. Accuracy and important decisions

Speech-to-text technology can make mistakes. Transcripts may be incomplete, delayed, mistranslated, mispunctuated, attributed to the wrong speaker, or affected by background noise, accents, device quality, connectivity, or other factors. You are responsible for reviewing and correcting transcripts before relying on them.

The Service is not a certified emergency service, medical device, legal advice tool, court reporting service, or accessibility aid for safety-critical use unless we expressly state otherwise in writing. Do not rely on the Service as the only source for emergencies, medical or legal decisions, employment decisions, financial decisions, safety decisions, or other high-impact matters.

9. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Service unlawfully, deceptively, secretly, abusively, or in a way that violates privacy, consent, recording, wiretapping, surveillance, employment, or data protection laws;
  • submit content that you do not have the right to record, transcribe, upload, process, or share;
  • use the Service to harass, stalk, threaten, defame, discriminate, exploit, or harm any person;
  • attempt to access accounts, data, systems, models, or infrastructure without authorization;
  • interfere with, overload, reverse engineer, scrape, benchmark, resell, or misuse the Service except as permitted by law or a written agreement;
  • use automated systems, bots, or scripts to access the Service in a way that exceeds ordinary use or usage limits;
  • upload malware or content designed to disrupt, damage, or obtain unauthorized access;
  • remove notices, circumvent technical limits, or misuse trial, subscription, or promotional offerings.

10. Intellectual property

The Service, including software, designs, interfaces, trademarks, logos, documentation, and backend systems, is owned by Soundfree or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms do not transfer any ownership of the Service to you. You may use the Service only as permitted by these Terms.

11. Feedback

If you send feedback, suggestions, or ideas, you grant us the right to use them without restriction or compensation, unless we agree otherwise in writing. This does not affect your rights in personal data under the Privacy Policy.

12. Third-party services

The Service may rely on or link to third-party services, including app stores, operating systems, authentication providers, cloud hosting, analytics, crash reporting, customer support tools, and AI text-improvement services. Third-party services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party services that we do not control.

14. Availability and changes

We aim to provide a reliable Service, but we do not guarantee that the Service will always be available, secure, uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every device, operating system, network, or language. We may perform maintenance, impose reasonable usage limits, modify features, or suspend access to protect the Service or comply with law.

15. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time and may request account deletion as described in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, create risk or legal exposure, fail to pay fees, or if we discontinue the Service. After termination, provisions that by their nature should survive will survive, including ownership, disclaimers, limitations of liability and dispute terms before termination.

16. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, accuracy, availability, or reliability. Nothing in these Terms limits rights that cannot be limited under applicable consumer law.

17. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Soundfree and its directors, employees, contractors, affiliates, and suppliers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages; loss of profits, revenue, goodwill, data, or business opportunities; or costs of substitute services. Our total liability for claims arising out of or relating to the Service or these Terms will be limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid to Soundfree for the Service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) EUR 1000. This limitation does not apply where prohibited by law, including liability that cannot be limited for intentional misconduct, gross negligence, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or mandatory consumer rights.

18. Indemnity

If you use the Service on behalf of a business or organization, you agree to indemnify and hold Soundfree harmless from claims, damages, liabilities, costs, and expenses arising from your User Content, your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of laws or third-party rights. This section applies only to the extent permitted by applicable law and does not limit mandatory consumer protections.

19. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Estonia, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts located in Estonia will have jurisdiction, unless mandatory consumer protection law gives you the right to bring claims in your country of residence or requires another forum. Before filing a claim, you agree to contact us at info@soundfr.ee so we can try to resolve the issue informally.

20. App store terms

If you downloaded the app from Apple App Store, Google Play, or another app store, your use may also be subject to that app store provider's terms. The app store provider is not responsible for providing support for the Service unless required by its own terms.

21. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If changes are material, we will provide notice through the app, by email, or by another appropriate method. Updated Terms become effective on the date stated above unless otherwise specified. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms.
